West Indies Level Series with Five-Wicket Win in Rain-Hit ODI
2nd ODI – Tarouba, August 10, 2025 | West Indies beat Pakistan by five wickets (DLS)
Scorecard:
-
Pakistan: 171/7 in 37 overs (Hasan Nawaz 36*, Talat 31, Seales 3-23)
-
West Indies: 184/5 in 33.2 overs (Chase 49*, Rutherford 45, Hope 32, Mohammad Nawaz 2-17, Hasan Ali 2-35)
Seales’ Early Strikes Put West Indies on Top
Pakistan, asked to bat first, struggled to adapt to the conditions and were immediately pegged back by Jayden Seales. Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub managed a few boundaries in the powerplay but were bogged down by a string of dot balls — just five singles came in the first ten overs.
Seales broke through when Ayub edged to the slips after nine consecutive dot balls. Three deliveries later, Babar Azam was bowled by a searing delivery that burst through the gate, leaving Pakistan reeling.
Mohammad Rizwan’s painstaking 4 off 23 balls added to Pakistan’s woes before a 90-minute rain delay further disrupted their rhythm. On resumption, debutant Jediah Blades claimed Shafique’s wicket, ending his painstaking innings.

Middle-Order Collapse and Rain Disruption
Pakistan’s innings never recovered from the early setbacks. Gudakesh Motie trapped Babar lbw, while Roston Chase dismissed Hussain Talat with a ball that stayed low. Salman Agha’s struggles ended with a miscued hook off Shamar Joseph.
Hasan Nawaz provided late resistance, striking freely during a shortened final phase after another rain interruption. However, just as Pakistan threatened a late surge, the heavens opened again, wiping out their final three overs and limiting the total to 171/7 in 37 overs.
Hasan Ali’s Double Blow Raises Pakistan’s Hopes
Set a revised target of 181 in 35 overs, the West Indies made a shaky start. Hasan Ali struck in each of his first two overs to remove both openers, while Pakistan’s spinners tightened the screws. Mohammad Nawaz and Abrar Ahmed kept the scoring rate low, with Keacy Carty especially bogged down at one end.
Pakistan’s fifth-bowling options, however, proved costly. Ayub’s solitary over went for 10 runs, while Salman conceded 11 in another, releasing the pressure.
Rutherford Turns the Game with Brutal Assault
With the asking rate climbing above six, Sherfane Rutherford took charge. Targeting Shaheen Afridi in the 17th over, he blasted two fours and a six for 17 runs, then punished Salman for another 20 in the next over.
The onslaught gave West Indies breathing space to play more conservatively against Abrar and Nawaz. The latter still managed to remove Hope and Rutherford in quick succession, sparking a period of slow scoring, but Pakistan’s main spin threat was now exhausted.

Chase and Greaves Seal the Win
Roston Chase shifted gears after Nawaz’s spell, striking two sixes off Ayub to bring the required rate under six. Justin Greaves, initially tentative against spin, played with confidence against pace, including a stylish flick for six off Hasan Ali.
With the equation firmly in the West Indies’ favor, Chase’s crisp off-drive sealed the win with ten balls to spare. The victory squared the series 1-1, setting up a decider in the final ODI.
