R Ashwin Seeks Clarity from CSK Ahead of IPL 2026
According to sources, R Ashwin has informed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) that he is open to parting ways with the franchise if he does not fit into their future plans.
IPL 2025 Performance Recap
Ashwin played nine out of CSK’s 14 matches in IPL 2025, picking up two wickets but conceding 41 runs in four overs against Rajasthan Royals in Delhi on May 20. This season marked a homecoming for Ashwin, representing his city after eight seasons with other teams.
It was also his first season since 2009 in which he played fewer than 12 matches. Moreover, it was his costliest IPL year, with an economy rate of 9.12, surpassing his previous best of 8.49 runs per over.
Ashwin on Franchise Communication
Speaking on his YouTube show, Ashwin said:
“Every player seeks clarity. I’ve just asked for clarity. All the news floating around, whether about me or Sanju, is coming from the franchises or rumors, not the players. Players have the right to express interest in being retained or released.”
Career Overview
Ashwin is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in IPL history. He began his career with CSK, later representing Rising Pune Supergiant, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals, before returning to CSK in 2025.
CSK’s Key Decisions
CSK also faces important decisions, including captaincy. MS Dhoni took over mid-season after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury. Historically, the franchise waits for Dhoni’s availability at year-end before finalizing leadership, a process expected to continue in 2026.
