PSL 2025 is expected to resume later this week in Pakistan

PSL 2025 still has eight matches left to be played before the season concludes.

PSL 2025 Expected to Resume Later This Week in Pakistan

The Pakistan Super League is likely to restart later this week, with the Pakistan Cricket Board aiming to complete the remaining eight games in Pakistan. The league had been postponed due to rising cross-border tensions with India, and both the PCB and franchise owners are keen to finish the season as soon as possible.

Overseas Player Availability Remains a Challenge

One of the main concerns ahead of the resumption is the availability of overseas players. Several international cricketers are unlikely to return, potentially affecting team balance. Some franchises are more confident than others about securing their overseas stars for the remaining matches.

Replacement Draft Considered

To address potential gaps, the PCB is reportedly considering a replacement draft. While top-tier players are largely already contracted to the PSL or IPL, the draft would allow franchises to fill their squads and maintain competitive balance. Production logistics will also need attention, as broadcasting contracts are set to expire on May 18, the original date scheduled for the final before the league was suspended.

Volatility Leading to Suspension

The league faced significant disruption due to security and geopolitical concerns. Initially, the PCB considered moving the tournament to Karachi after safety issues arose around the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Later, the league was planned for the UAE, but rising tensions ultimately led to an indefinite suspension, following advice from Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Overseas Players Evacuated

During this period, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with overseas players, who were reportedly not in a frame of mind to continue playing. The decision was made to airlift them to the UAE from a nearby airbase that evening, ensuring their safety while the situation stabilized.

Franchise Contracts and Future Plans

The conclusion of PSL 2025 will coincide with the end of ten-year franchise leases. Current owners have a right of first refusal, with some expressing interest in permanent ownership rather than long-term rolling contracts.

Impact on the Bangladesh Tour

The PSL schedule spillover is expected to affect Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan. The BCB had planned five T20Is from May 25, with matches in Faisalabad and Lahore. Discussions between the two boards are ongoing to accommodate both events and ensure the tour proceeds smoothly.
