Marsh Commits Future to Perth Scorchers

Mitchell Marsh has reaffirmed his commitment to the Perth Scorchers, signing a new three-year deal that could see him finish his BBL career as a one-club player. Australia’s T20I captain, who was out of contract after last season and not among the Scorchers’ ten pre-signed players during the player movement window, faced some speculation about his future.

Given time to assess his career direction after losing his Test place in January, Marsh opted to stay loyal to the Scorchers. While selectors have left the door open for his Test return, Marsh confirmed his focus will now include greater participation in the BBL, after appearing in just one match over the past three seasons.

A One-Club Vision

Marsh expressed pride in committing long-term to the franchise he has represented since the BBL’s inception.

“Being a one-club player was a big part of my decision, which made it relatively easy. In today’s cricket, players represent many teams globally, but for me, coming home to the Scorchers and hopefully finishing my career here will be something I’ll always value,” Marsh said.

He added that close bonds with teammates influenced his decision, noting Joel Paris, now returning to the Scorchers, was even part of his wedding. Marsh emphasized his determination to contribute consistently on the field and help drive the team toward more finals appearances and silverware.

Scorchers Value Marsh’s Loyalty and Leadership

Scorchers high-performance manager Kade Harvey described Marsh’s re-signing as a vital move.

“Signing Mitch was a priority given his calibre as both a player and person. His loyalty and passion for the Scorchers have been central since the club’s foundation. His leadership, experience, and skills will be invaluable for us over the next three seasons,” Harvey said.

Marsh, 33, remains the only Scorchers player from the inaugural BBL season, where he played a starring role in the first-ever final with an unbeaten 77 against the Sydney Sixers.

Jonassen Extends Stay with Brisbane Heat

In the WBBL, Jess Jonassen has also reaffirmed her loyalty by re-signing with the Brisbane Heat for another two years, continuing her record as a one-club player.

Jonassen, who captained the Heat to last season’s WBBL final, is the club’s most capped player with 147 matches. Her outstanding recent form in the WPL, where she claimed 13 wickets and struck two half-centuries for Delhi Capitals, further underlined her value.

The Heat will now count on her leadership and experience as they target another strong campaign in the upcoming WBBL season.
