Iyer and Hardik Fined for Slow Over-Rates in Qualifier 2
Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya were penalized after Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) maintained slow over-rates during their IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash in Ahmedabad on Sunday night.
Late Start and Extended Match Conditions
The game started late due to unseasonal rain in Ahmedabad just after the toss. The tournament’s adjusted playing conditions allowed two extra hours to complete a full match, yet the slow over-rates further delayed the finish.
Details of Fines
PBKS’ second offence of the season saw Iyer fined INR 24 lakh. Hardik, representing MI in their third over-rate offence, was fined INR 30 lakh. Other PBKS players were fined either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever was lower, while MI players faced fines of INR 12 lakh or 50% of their fees.
No Suspension for Hardik
Despite MI’s third over-rate offence, Hardik will not face suspension. A rule amendment following his suspension at the end of IPL 2024, which caused him to miss the first match of IPL 2025, ensures he remains available for selection.
Iyer Leads PBKS to the Final
PBKS advanced to their first IPL final since 2014, led by Iyer’s 41-ball 87 not out. They will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 3. With neither PBKS nor RCB having previously won the tournament, IPL 2025 will see a new champion crowned.
