AB de Villiers’ Masterclass Century Powers South Africa to Dominant Victory Over England in WCL Clash

AB de Villiers rolled back the years with a breathtaking century as South Africa Champions thrashed England Champions by 10 wickets in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 at Leicester on Thursday.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, South Africa’s decision proved effective as they restricted England to a modest 152/6 in their allotted 20 overs. England opener Phil Mustard was the top scorer with 39 off 33 balls, while Samit Patel added 24 from 16 deliveries. Skipper Eoin Morgan chipped in with a brisk 20, but regular wickets halted England’s momentum.

Tim Ambrose (19), Liam Plunkett (13), Moeen Ali (10), Ravi Bopara (7), and Ian Bell (7) were unable to capitalize on their starts, as South Africa’s disciplined bowling attack kept the run rate in check. Imran Tahir and Wayne Parnell took two wickets each, while Chris Morris and Johannes Oliver claimed one apiece.

In response, South Africa produced a flawless chase led by a sensational AB de Villiers, who scored an unbeaten 116 off just 51 balls, including 15 fours and 7 sixes. His attacking flair and effortless shot-making left the crowd in awe. Hashim Amla provided steady support at the other end, remaining unbeaten on 29 off 25 balls with four boundaries.

The pair comfortably chased down the target in just 12.2 overs, securing a dominant 10-wicket win and elevating South Africa Champions to the top of the WCL points table with six points from three games.

South Africa will now look to extend their winning run as they face Pakistan Champions in their next fixture at the same venue on Friday.
